TCC Ask A Librarian: Q. The link did not lead to the article in the database. How do I reach the article?

Articles and links are being added, removed, and changed all the time, so there is always a chance that a link in the library search results will not lead to the article. However, just because the link is broken doesn't mean you can't still find the article!

A patron wanted to read this article, but none of the links to Gale databases lead to the article.

To find the article at the source, I searched for the journal, then I searched within the journal for the article. Here are step-by-step instructions:

Click Citation
Choose a thorough citation like MLA 8th Edition.
Copy the name of the journal.
Open a new browser tab or window, go to the library home page (https://library.tccd.edu), and click "Can I see a list of all electronic journal titles available?" (Direct link to journal search)
Paste in the journal title that you copied earlier and click the search icon.
Click the name of the journal.
The same databases appear here, but these links lead to the journal level, not directly to the article. Click one of these links.
Depending on the database, you can search for the article here or browse by date. In this example, we know from the citation that the article is in the May 7, 2018 edition.
There are a lot of results, so back in the citation in the other open browser window, copy the title of the article.
Paste the title to search just this issue of the journal.
Now we see the article in the search results.
Click the link and read the article!
Back in the other browser tab, please be sure to click the "Report a broken link" link. This sends all the information about this article to us so we can report the problem to the providers.
